So your telling me that a chiro can't "realign" my spine b/c it was out of place s/p car accident?
Sorry, but I tell all my family members never never let a chiro touch your neck.
As you all know, we have a lot of patients that don't seem to progress for whatever reason. Could be secondary gain. Could be poor coping skills. Could be that their pain doctor is missing the right target (or all of the above).
Everyone has different populations but I haven't seen that the personal injury patients are statistically more likely to

Actually, generally, they are hard working folks trying to get back to work. Greater than half get better with conservative meds and PT. I few need epidurals and other treatments.
I had a new MA that started and I asked her to look at her first 50 patients that she saw. 4 or 5 were PI. The rest were not. She could not distinguish them. I think that is telling.
Are there scams out there? Absolutely Are 99% of PI patients scams? Absolutely not

Maybe I am not seeing enough to think as you do, but what you describe here is not what I have seen. I see about 70 new patients per month and probably 5 are PI.

There are some of the bigger PI groups that have two fee schedules. Those of you who don't do a lot of this work may ask why.
It is because it allows them to get a lot even with a very large reduction. I think that having two fee schedules is the definition of fraud.
It is akin to charging one patient $3000 and another $30000 for the same treatment.
Anyone who has done a 100% pi practice knows what is up..

i rarely see anyone referred from PI; the injured patients i see are most commonly referred by PCP or ER with no lawyer in sight.
the 2nd week i was in practice, 2 PI attorneys asked for a meeting, where they asked how i felt about PI. they used catchphrases such as what was the best thing to help these poor individuals who were harmed and how we could make them whole, then how a relationship with them also could make me whole.
apparently, i answered poorly.

Yeah the first time you refuse to change your note to meet what they want it to say they tend to stop sending people.
I am not saying all PI pts are scams but at least in Texas, there are only one way to get PI pts on a regular basis. From Chiro, to Pain, to Neurology, to Spine, to PT, to Psych they all know the only way to get these pts is to play the game. The PI lawyers only care about maximizing $$$ and unless you play the game, you are of little worth to them.
Lets be honest, if someone in a minor MVC is sent to you with neck pain and you sent them home with motrin/neck strain diagnosis, do you really think you will be getting any more PI pts? Now if you scanned them from head to toe, slap on a cervical radiculopathy, then they can run with this for big bucks.

you're implying that not getting PI patients is a bad thing.....
I am implying the opposite. Better to practice good medicine than be beholden to PI attorneys. We have been approached and always politely declined.
I dont do enough to be an expert but I have found that the smaller firms seem more reputable. I have three smaller firms near me. They all are pretty hands off and don't get involved in treatment. It is actually a pleasure to see their clients. I dont get referrals from the big firms.
Maybe that is why my prospective is skewed compared to everyone else here
I worked at exam works for a while. I felt so dirty after awhile, I just couldn’t do it. They would explicitly tell me my note has to say x,y.z. I wouldn’t do what they wanted and eventually they stopped filling my schedule. Money was decent for awhile, especially the $3000 for the 15 minute depositon but I couldn’t do it.
