I'm in the process of completing my postbac application and was hoping someone could give me their advice for my personal statement.
For NYU's essay, they ask you to explain your motivation for seeking a career in the health professions at this point in your life. Right now, I've stated events/activities/experiences that had raised my interest in medicine at one point or another, stated why i chose a different career path, then how i realized after 3 years of working that it was not at all what i wanted to do and how i came to realize that a career in medicine was the correct choice. My conclusion is showing how this period between college and the postbac has provided me with perspective (motivation) to really drive me through the rigorous coursework and long journey ahead. I've also written about how my volunteer/shadowing experiences have shown me the downside to medicine and that i'm aware that physicians aren't "saving lives" or performing procedures all day.
Would it be wiser to focus on one event from the period before I began working and really go into detail about it? I feel that right now I am just listing points (which truly were factors in my decision) but since I don't have much space to elaborate they don't seem very genuine...Is there anything you would suggest or strongly recommend adding in or removing?
any opinions would be greatly appreciated!!
