Hi,

For those of you who have already written their Personal Statements, What should be one looking to include? I have a general idea and I'm getting all my thoughts together. please let me know.

Basically describe why you want to be a dentist and what makes you a good candidate for dental school. Do you have what it takes???
If you go to dmdstudent.com, they have some examples. There are some threads here of SDNers that are willing to critique ur statement, so PM them once you are done. Ask your advisor and Eng prof to critique it.

Your ps should be about:

1. Who you are (briefly including essential aspect-not an autobiography)
2. How you became interested in dentistry
3. What you have done to achieve your goal academically and otherwise (shadowing- what procedures you witnessed and what impact, if any, those procedures had on you)
4. Any skills you may have to show you have some semblance of manual dexterity skills
5. Future plans you have in dentistry

What makes you uniquely qualified to attend dental school? What makes you different from all the other applicants and what's your story?

I have some ideas but they dont seem compelling enough. I want to establish:

1. i'm prepared for dental school with manual dexterity
2. family is really important (im kinda not sure about this)
3. im a victim of a bad root canal procedure in taiwan.

Family is important to everyone, but if you are suggesting that your education will take a back seat to your pursuit, that may be a prescription for failure.
It is never a good idea to call yourself a victim of poor care because it is unlikely that you are qualified to pass judgment on a "bad root canal", although you can certainly mention that you have had some "significant" experience in the dental chair. Negative statements do not belong in a ps.
