I was thinking about basing my personal statement on perseverance and how I overcame low grades early in undergrad and how that shaped me into a better more mature student. Also watching my dad work two construction jobs, yet he was stoic/indifferent due to the fact that he had to support his family. This rubbed off on me and would allow me to excel as a medical student and doctor when things become really tough and you have to be in full control. Im just not sure where my volunteer experience or shadowing experience would fit in. Any advice? Should I use this story or abandon it?

I think it would be an okay idea to make perseverance your theme just add in some personal experiences in the medical field too and you should have a solid foundation imo. Edit: And be sure to answer why you chose medicine or what sparked the turn around in grades.
