Yup, spaces are counted.

hard entry-returns (i.e. hitting enter) counts as two characters.

amcas will literally cut you off when they feel it is long enough!!! so be sure to read the end to be sure everything is there.

and apps like the TMDSAS app will let you enter as much as you want and cut it off when you save the page.
