Hi,

I'm applying for a few different schools. I was wondering if anyone applied to Alliant? If so, would you'd be willing to share your personal statement essay? I'm a little nervous about some parts and would love for someone to read and critique my essay. It would be helpful and truly appreciated if I can read some personal statements too so I can have a better idea of a good essay. If you have been accepted to Alliant or other schools, it would be great if you could share also. I'm really anxious/nervous about this part so any advice or help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Please help!

Not applying there, but I get the feeling they are extremely clinically oriented, so I would suggest focusing on your clinical experience, identify practicum sites they work with that interest you, perhaps mention a few faculty from whom you would like to learn (e.g., if Dr. Smith is an expert in CBT treatment of youth with conduct disorder via the "adolescent pathway" and you're really interested in getting your Psy.D. in order to work in youth corrections you might mention that Dr. Smith's renowned expertise are a major reason you want to attend Alliant -- fyi, though, you should first verify Dr. Smith will be teaching there next year or this strategy could backfire as mentioning mostly retiring professors or professors who intend to leave that school might make the admissions committee wonder whether you'd be a good fit w/o that faculty member). If you would like, I can send you a statement of purpose I wrote for a more clinically-oriented program to which I am applying if you think that would help you (I applied to balanced Ph.D.s as well as a couple of select Psy.D.s that emphasize research almost as much as clinical, so I'd probably send a Psy.D. one).
