Hey everyone! I will be applying to the PTCAS 11-12 cycle with intentions of beginning PT school fall 2012. I just contacted my potential LOR's and one wants me to provide my unofficial transcripts, resume and a personal statement. Just wanted to see if anyone has done the same thing for their LOR's and if so, I'm looking for general advice on the length & content of a personal statement. He obviously doesn't want an essay so I'm trying to figure out what the dividing lines are between essay & personal statement! Thanks in advance! 🙂

I'm assuming you are probably asking a professor that doesn't know you really well (perhaps a science class that had 100+ people in it) and so he/she wants some additional information on you outside of your 3 test scores from their exam. A personal statement can be long or short, depending on who the targeted audience is... in this case, I would compile the Personal Statement/essay answer on PTCAS and give a copy of that to the potential recommender; that way he/she will know what you are actually sending as part of your application. Or, you can call up and ask- "Hey did you want a copy of the personal statement I am using for my application, which is a bit longer, or would you just like a brief summary of my schooling/experiences?"

Although we hate to ask, sometimes it's the best way to find out for sure! 🙂
