What should be included in a personal statement? I wrote a draft about my personal experience and encounters but I didn't write about my dental internship and things like manual dexterity, which seems to be very common thing to write about. I'm contemplating of writing a whole new personal statement. I just wanted some feedback!

I will be applying this upcoming cycle.

try to write things that are not provided in ur AADSAS application. so dont list off the activities you listed off and the description of them if they are in ur aadsas app already. Instead, talk about an experience you enjoyed while being there, or something of that nature.

Yeah, I wrote about a family member and my experience at a third-world country. Instead of showing my capabilities of being a dentist, I showed why I wanted to be a dentist. I see that a lot of people have been writing about their internships and their hand dexterity.

I'm thinking about whether I should take out the story about the relative and substitute that with things I learned at my internship/hand dexterity, etc

I was told (and I believe) that admissions wants to get a sense of who you are. They want to see that you are a good person who is pursuing a career in dentistry for the right reasons. Make sure that you show them this, do not tell them! Anyone can say that they want to be a dentist to help people. Write about a life experience that shows how gratifying it was for you to help someone in need. Also, be original. Admission committees have to read hundreds of these things, so make yours stand out.

The PS has a theme and its actually part of the directions. Theme = "Why Dentistry?". Put that in the back of your mind as your write.

Every activity, every experience, everything you talk about, should (IMO) loop back to how this particular thing is related to "why dentistry" is the right career path...

There was a website that has personal statements of people who got in and I feel like my essay doesn't resemble anything like theirs. I have a different style of writing, a more narrative way but captivating (at least my friends say so), and I didn't write about my dental internships but rather people and other experiences that had an impact on me.

So I'm a bit hesitant

As long as you convey who you are and there is some type of correlation between that and why dentistry, you'll be in good shape. However, if you can, avoid using "I" and "me" as much as possible. Obviously you'll have to use it to an extent, but try to use different sentence structures.
