One of my most defining experiences was shadowing a MD (who has told me over and over they prefer DO medicine and has gone through great lengths to practice holistically)

Because of this I want to mention them in my statement (I wont specify that they're an md or anything)

Would this be looked at poorly? Or would they not care as long as it's just influential?

Everyone practices "holistically". It's called being a physician and standard of care. Unless he's talking about the voodoo and chakra then I suggest you shadow a different physician.

That being said, no one will care. Just don't be the tool that lambasts MDs only to have a MD interview you.

The sooner you realize there is NO difference between being a DO or MD the easier the transition into "the suck" will be. Unless you plan on being one of 3-5 kool aid drinkers each new DO class has. Then, you have bigger issues.
So true. I was about to go to a DO program but eventually went to an MD school. I find it highly offensive when people say "DO is holistic while MD is not it." That is complete crap. My school works tirelessly to remind us to investigate every aspect of a person to deliver optimal treatment. And at the same time the DO community want to insist that DO is the same as MD. If it is (which I agree it is), than leave it at that. Ugh.

I talked about shadowing my family doc in my personal statement, who is an MD. You don't need to mention their credentials, or even their name for that matter.. Just talk about what matters (the experience you had.)

I don't agree its a DO community thing. It's the docs at the AOA/ those who run schools-- these DOs don't really represent the interest of 95% of DOs and DO students. The main issue, imo, is that these guys/ gals who drink the kool aid are the ones who end up in admin; thus, propagating the stupidity.
That makes sense.
