1. So currently i'm writing my personal statement. It's heavily based on the experiences I had while growing up in the south side of Chicago and the lack of healthcare. It's a strong essay about why I want to go in to medicine for my community, but I have a slight dilemma. My entire application is FILLED with research experience, and I kind of wanted the emphasis to also be on the research. However, my research itself is not truly the reason why I want to go in to medicine (nor do I plan on applying for a MD/PhD position). It's moreso supplementary, but has never really been as important as my experiences as a kid growing up.
With that said, I'm having a lot of difficulty gearing my essay for both my story AND research. If I do it seems extremely choppy and rushed, almost unpersonal. I kind of want to cut any mention of research at all in the PS. But i'm unsure exactly how much of my focus on research should be re-emphasized in my PS for the purpose of showing to committees that i've been heavily involved with it. Do you think I should just chop it out? Or re-write a PS that directly emphasizes my research more in depth?
(Note: I have plenty of community advocacy and volunteering that I would otherwise emphasize)
2. If I submit my AAMCAS without a MCAT score (planning on taking MCAT in mid or late June), and I submit all my stuff to get verified, will this count as an attempt at applying if I don't get the score I want and push until next year? I heard re-applicants have a harder time and I'm not sure if applying to 1 school just to get verified would count as an attempt. @gonnif , maybe you can shed some light on this for me?
