Hey guys! I just finished writing my personal statement, and it basically talks about my character as a whole. My thesis statement is a motto that I live by. The entire essay I included just one or two sentences stating that I definitely want a career that involves helping people with certain disabilities.

I didn't really go into why I wanted to do pharmacy specifically in the personal statement, because I figured I'd have to write about that in the supplemental apps anyway? For the Sup. Apps, I'll have to talk about why I want to go to each school, and I was thinking of writing about why I want to do pharmacy and how that school will help me reach my goals.

I figured that the personal statement is the one time I could really show my personality, and that's what I really focused on. What do you think? Should I change my personal statement so that it also includes why I want to do pharmacy? Keep in mind it's only 4,000 characters.. I feel that's kind of redundant to write two essays that are similar... plus there are so many things pharmcas said to write about in the personal statement that I feel if i touched on all those topics, it wouldn't really be a nice essay, more like a list ...

I'd like to know what you guys think...

You personal statement needs to be about you AND why you want (or should) go into pharmacy school.

Some schools have a tiered admissions system. For instance, they may look at your PS and then decide to move you on through the process where they look at the supplemental app questions.

You don't wanna get caught short there.

The prompt for the Personal Statement explicitly states that you "should address why you selected Pharmacy as a career" and how the Pharm.D. relates to your short term and long term goals. By not addressing the prompt, you risk the chance of getting your application tossed by ad coms for not following direction. And even with that, there are quite a few schools out there that don't have essay portions for their supplemental application so you might not even get the chance to express your desire to pursue pharmacy.

So if I were you, I would change it to include the required parts.
