Destined? I think it just evolved into suck, personally.
lmao

That is by far the most gross oversimplification of a major historical event I have ever seen. EVER.
Not really. He was using hyperbole, yes, but it very much sums up the thought process behind a suicide bomber's actions. Not necessarily "I have virgins waiting for me" but "I will be rewarded for my actions in the afterlife". What do you think the motive for killing oneself to kill others is?

Are all terrorists religious? You really think the reason the Taliban attacked the United States was over getting virgins in the afterlife? I know it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy blaming things like this on religion, thinking "well me and my flock would never do something like that, it's religion that does it not human nature" but you're just deluding yourself. People do violent, ****ty things, no matter what excuse they have to find to validate their actions to themselves.

Killing anyone in ANY circumstance entails giving up your life. If it's not death by a suicide bombing it's by the death penalty or rotting away in prison. The real question is why do people kill people.

I'm not disagreeing with you on this specific point, only on the last one.

I realize that people would still be killing each other even without religion. There is, however, a very important distinction to make here. The people actually blowing themselves up are motivated by religion. What you're referring to (people killing each other regardless of faith) more accurately describes the guys sending the suicide bombers to do the killing. In other words, the guys with knowledge, influence and power are the ones who brainwash/delude suicide bombers into suicide bombing. They use religion as a justification because it's convenient; even if religion were absent, they would find another justification (such as politics) to send their able and willing troops to their deaths.

However, this does not change the fact that the guys actually blowing themselves up (the suicide bombers themselves) are motivated almost exclusively by religious belief.

I think we're actually saying the same thing then. Sorry for the overreaction.

I'd be happy to take a look, though I'll give the caveats that I am still pre-med myself and one of the least religious people you'll meet (though I don't have any real problem with those who are). I've been told I give excellent feedback on essays by fellow students and teachers, however.
