Hey all, so I'm applying to a research assistant position (clinical and basic science- so both "why I want to be a doctor and why I want this specific position" will need to be addressed... I think...), and it's asking for a personal statement of 1-2 pages, a cover letter, as well as my resume.
My question is... does each thing need to cover something different?
I know from talking to my research professor that the cover letter will be read first. So she gave me some pointers, and I think I can definitely talk about why I want the position, how I am the best fit, and how it will help me in my future. Since I am attaching a resume, would it be smart to talk about some things that are already mentioned in the resume? I've always heard "no, don't repeat yourself". But I don't think it's possible for me not to repeat myself. help would be appreciated on this one.
What I don't know is how my personal statement is going to be written! I am thinking about essentially writing "why medicine" focusing a bit more on research and stuff and drawing it back onto clinical stuff (so it gels with the focus of this research assistant position). But again, a bunch of my "why medicine" comes from activities on my resume... is that ok? Or do I need to draw on experiences outside of what is mentioned on my resume.
I'm somewhat lost, any suggestions would certainly be appreciated! Thanks guys
