  1. Pre-Dental
I'm having writer's block for my personal statement. I've got a story involving how I want to do dental missions after my father (being a pastor) brought in some dental missionaries. Then I move into how this desire led me to join the military as a combat medic, told a story about my dedication and resilence through that, then I've started on how my mother's breast cancer diagnosis forced me to overcome emotional hardships and ect. Now how can I wrap it all up? I've only got 3500 characters.

Looks like each situation probably has brought about a personal growth within yourself. Maybe if you haven't talk conclude with how(certain attributes) they have helped you become the person you are today. And how it will help you be the dentist you want to become tomorrow? Looks like these situations can really showcase some positive attributes that adcoms are looking for. Just my 2 pennies worth!!

It sounds like you have a lot of great material. I think most schools are pretty military friendly and your combat medic experience definitely illustrates your ability to handle medical emergencies in stressful situations. It's tough writing these personal statements. Don't be afraid to go through several drafts and I would recommend getting some expert assistance involved in the process. My school had a writing center staffed by english grad students that helped me shape ideas and polish the finished product. Maybe your school has something similar. If not I'm sure you could hire one on your own. Just remember, "brevity is the soul of wit." Just because you are allotted 3500 characters doesn't mean you should use it all. ADCOMS have a lot to read, you don't want them getting bored on yours. Good luck!
