You can blather on as much as 1000 words, but I think my essay was about 850. I could have added a few more things, but I thought it would have cluttered it. The points that I made were the primary things I wanted them to remember me by.
(Concise+interesting+original) + (grammatically correct x ingenious layout) - completely ******ed statements = successful personal comments essay.
Just remember that less can be a lot more when adcoms are grinding through the essays. Don't hedge up your main ideas with sentences or paragraphs that detract from the thesis and interrupt the flow. Eliminate clutter words. And for the sake of originality don't start any sentence, under any circumstance with, "I would be good dentist because..." or "I want to be a dentist because..." This series of words strung together will almost definitely illicit a gag reflex from the adcom. Then they'll vomit all over your paper...its not pretty, especially during the open file interviews.
my p.s. is way too long, 2081 words. the premed site has a list of people willing to look @ other peoples p.s. to help we should start something like that, i'll be the 1st to volunteer to look @ others, any takers to cut and slash mine?

Yeah, it was really smelly and embarassing. Every single interview was the same too. The interviewer would take out my essay to review it, then throw up. It just gets old after a few interviews, you know?
Some guy I know who got into UF dental school showed me his ps and it was a page, with 2 7 sentence paragraphs on the second page. I think with the proper margins, well standard ones, you'll run into 2 pages if you do the full 1000 words, but it is ideal to condense it into a page, with a little bit on the next page, and white space to ease the eye of the reader.
