hi guys,

so i'm writing my personal statement for dental school and i just thought about something. in the event that i don't get in to dental school for the 2011 cycle, would it be alright to use the same personal statement for the next cycle? would this be detrimental in any possible way? thanks.

cheers!

I used the same personal statement after not getting in last cycle. I had one interview last year, and 5 this year. Obviously, I improved other parts of my app, but no it is not detrimental to use the same personal statement (assuming it is a good one).

Right now you should just focus on getting in the first time. But to answer your question: It would be fine to use the same one, but I would at least work on it some more.

You could probably get away with it, but its always better to tweak it and try to get some fresh information in there. Some schools keep your application on file and may compare old vs new applications. In this case, using it verbatim might be detrimental.

it would be a good idea to update it in case you eventually add something to your original resume. you can definitely get away with it though if you just want to use the original one.

I thought my first one was pretty good, but reading it over a year after writing it the first time, I really thought I had grown up a lot and had tons of different experiences since that made lots of stuff in the first one seem irrelevant.

I got in this time, and I'm sure it was a combo of things. But with my average GPA and DAT scores, I have to assume shadowing, Personal statement and interview had to count for a lot. Use the best parts of your first one and really use the second one to describe why you are different (and waaaaay better!) this time around.

That being said, I hope you have good luck find you this time around!:xf:
