I disagree strongly. I think it is a very important part of the application. The personal statement and the interview are the only 'human' factors of the process. Since pharmacy is a people-oriented profession, the schools DO care what kind of person you are...not just that you kicked butt on the PCAT or aced organic. Although I don't think an average, run of the mill personal statement may be too deterimental to your application, an excellent personal statement can be your ticket in. I found this out first hand. Although my numbers were good, I think my personal statement solidified my acceptance. During my interview, my interviewer outright told me that my personal statement "blew her away". I realized then that it was worth the effort that I put into it.
