if applying ED should one tailor the PS to that specific school? or would that be considered a bit odd.

I am from New Orleans and for various reasons greatly desire to stay within the city to study and eventually to practice. I am applyin to Tulane ED, so it seems that I should put this fact in my PS (of course theyll obviously assume i wish to stay here, but they dont know my specific reason). The only worry would be that if i for some ungodly reason was not accepted, then id be stuck with a PS saying I dont want to leave this city right? well i suppose if it turns out this way my only other real chance at med school this round would be LSU so the PS would still work of course.

So go for it? Ive just never really heard anyone doing such a thing, so it makes me slightly hesitant.

.

I think this is enough reason not to tailor your PS to the school. If you don't get in, you may decide to apply to more schools than those that are in your immediate area and there is generally a spot on all secondaries to indicate why you want to go to that particular school.

I wont mention the actual school name, just that i want to stay around here. so that would leave both Tulane and LSU as fair game. If I cant make it into either of those then I surely cant make it into an out of state school Id be happy with. Id be perfectly content getting my masters or doing the MPH before instead of during med school. Im more wondering if it would seem wierd from an adcoms point of view.

Instead of mentioning Tulane, you could say your career aspirations involve practicing in New Orleans after you obtain an M.D. and explain your reasons why. The con is that if you're applying to out-of-state public schools looking for applicants who they think will stay in their state, you're hurting yourself. If you're all private schools, it may not be an issue, but I think these guys are right, certainly a risk.
