What should be included in the personal statement? Should it just be written to make it sound like you are the best damn thing this planet has ever seen? Any examples would be great, thanx!

Just write about yourself in ways that relate to dentistry.....obviously. The real point of the statement is to convey a sense of who you are and what you have to offer. If you are in fact the best damn thing this planet has ever seen then this will pose no challenge for you. good luck!

Hey, it's okay to make yourself look good. Just don't over do things. Also, don't be afraid to POSITIVELY criticize yourself. For example. My GPA slipped the semester before the cycle. I brought that up, (I remember using "I messed up" ) briefly explained why--- I got my priorities mixed up, and explained how I have LEARNED from the experience. It was a very objective (almost harsh) evaluation of myself and all my proof-readers thought it was very bold move. I just figured I'd save us all the embarrassment of explaining all of that at the interview. Nobody bothered me about it during my interview cos they knew BEFORE hand and they chose to interview me anyway.
I started off mine talking about how I was introduced to dentistry (I had a metal soccer goal post fall on my face). Then I mentioned my commitment to a career in healthcare (talking about volunteer and shadowing stuff and pointing out my strengths). Then I talked about research projects and finished off with reason I would be a good and dedicated student/dentist.
