Hello everyone, I am wondering if we have a DO personal statement thread, I could not find one but that doesn’t. Mean there isn’t one. I know that may MD students upload their personal statement to MDapps, but I was wondering about a DO specific personal statement review.

If not I would love to start one :)

Thanks!

To my knowledge, prospective DO students post their personal statements on MDapps as well. Either way, the essays will probably vary slightly.

Do not post your PS publicly. There are plenty of people to read it privately, and people could and will steal parts. You can upload it after acceptance. I think I might do that actually. But afterwords. There is usually an official thread of people willing to read personal statements.

How might D.O essays vary? Do people just include how much they love osteopathic medicine?

DO and MD statements are basically the same, the DO statement has to be shorter though. You really don't need to address that much about your motivation for DO if you think you can find better use for the space, reason being is that pretty much every secondary you receive is going to ask you to explain your motivation for being a DO.

And yeah don't post your PS publicly. Have friends, family, professors, etc read it for you and make suggestions.

If you read the sticky's on the top of this subforum, you will see a sticky "READ ME FIRST" for the latest application cycle - 2011-2012. This has lots of links to threads that are helpful, including a personal statement thread. These are common questions, thus the "READ ME FIRST" title.

Once the old app cycle has closed out and it is closer to the new app cycle we will start new threads. Probably May.

ShyRem,
I am sorry I should have been more specific, I meant the 2012-2013 application year. I did notice the sticky above but it was not for the next application cycle. Thank you for your response I will look for that sticky in May.

Thank you,
