I am a rising senior looking to hopefully get into an MD school. How weak/strong of an applicant am I and what areas should I address to see if I should apply this cycle or get a Masters and try next cycle.
Me:
-Genetics Major
-Health & Society (Medical Sociology) minor
-I have a 3.5 GPA
-MCAT over the summer
-I had a bad first semester and maybe 2 hiccups since then.
ECs:
-Journalist and Public Relations officer for pre-health journal at college (2 years-ongoing)
-Writing tutor (1 year)
-Writing internship
-Research (ongoing)
-student ambassador (2 years)
-currently interviewing for a position in a private lab on campus
Summer:
-took classes over the summer
-lab position at the private lab will start in the summer
Shadowing:
I shadowed a number of physicians and other health care professionals in HS
Volunteering:
-only the student ambassadorship

You've probably heard this before, but nothing can really be said until you have an MCAT score.

Other than that, you need to shadow and volunteer more. Keep in mind that anything done in high school does not count.

Once you add that do your application, if you pair your GPA with a high MCAT score, M.D. schools are a possibility.
