MS1 here

I've been thinking of building a personal website as a blog, where I can showcase my travel photos, craft beer collection, weightroom PRs, and engineering side projects (and maybe medical stuff too).

Do you guys think that it might be too personal if PDs find it when I apply for residency?

Guessing that would be a pretty empty website with all your free time you'll have in MS2/3.

Check out the website I have for all my free time activities outside of studying, research, and basic human hygiene: blank.org

I'm very searchable on the interwebz. Just gonna roll with it this app cycle. I am who I am... within reason.

Dude, I think that a personal website is great. Same rules apply as to other social media though - don't put anything on there that you wouldn't feel comfortable having your PD read right in front of you.

People drink, lift weights, and travel. It is cool to talk about and makes you a person.

I "Google" every application that hits my desk.. just FYI. If you are comfortable discussing it, it's okay. If it make you unique... by all means. If it makes you "unique" (because all the other applicants suddenly look better)... hold off. FYI, this also good for the "Interests" part of the ERAS application. Not specific to the OP, but no one what to know you taxidermy ferrets... keep your unusual hobbies to yourself.

Sounds like a great candidate for path...

What positive or negative experiences have you had with this?

I know a third year who has a website for her medical illustrations and freelance photography. I think a personal website can come off as quite impressive if done well.
