Hi!

Has anyone done an elective in Peru?

what do you mean with elective?

An elective is an elective rotations. You rotate through a hospital(s) in a certain specialty that is not in the core rotations. Cores are usually medicine, ob/gyn, surgery, psychiatry, pediatrics. Electives can be anything from plastic surgery to neurology to radiology.

Hi,

I read your post inquiring about electives in Peru and since the medical school system is different it is not going to be easy to find one.

Most US med students doing electives in Peru do the Infectious & Tropical Diseases elective at the Instituto de Medicina Tropical Alexander von Humboldt of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (www.upch.edu.pe). The site is in spanish.

Good Luck, let me know if it was any help.
