For those of you who have used the Pestana review for studying during your Surgery clerkships, how useful was it for the shelf exam? Is it enough? Is it pretty representitive of the actual test?

Come on....anyone???

I used it last year. I think it lacked depth and details. But then again, I think it is hard to find a good review text. I actually thought First Aid was ok. I did like the appleton and lang review questions.

Surgery is a tough shelf to study for

I'm sure you've all heard the dogma - medical management of surgical patients

The pestana review is pretty good though - ties together important points, and gets you thinking about those "next step" questions. Those can be hard because a lot of times all the answer choices are correct, and in a clinical setting all will be performed, but they're looking for the best next test/lab/imaging etc.

I did well on the shelf and was able to honor the rotation - Pestana definately helped. However I'd definately supplement it with something else (like NMS casebook or FA)
