So, freshman year I got fast developing cataracts and retinal detachment at the same time, which sucks, I know. It happened a month after I already got settled in, classes had already started. I had to fly all the way back home and get the procedure done and fly back for classes, it was a big mess. My doctor told me to just take a leave of absence, but my prideful self was scared that I wouldn't make any new friends, and I just didn't want to seem weak. Now, I regret it. I failed a class that year and it's now forever on my transcript haunting me. I was thinking about doing a petition to have that semester removed due to my medical circumstances, and wanted to see if anyone on here has had to file a petition for these kinds of things and what it was like for them? If I can't get it removed, I'm stuck with an F, and my GPA is already a death sentence, like I don't even know to bounce back from this.

You are only a sophomore right? You can bounce back, but it will require some soul searching as well as real work. Nothing worth doing is easy. Though your only other post was about an IA. You need to get your act together or it will be the end of the line for medical school.

Every school is different and yours may have procedures to get it removed. If not that's fine just use this as an experience to your advantage when explaining on your application.

No one on the admissions committee is going to pass you over because of something like this.

What might a really nice thing is to pass that class with an A and have that professor write a letter for you.
