Hey, I was wondering if anyone has a pet in the dorms...which is ...lets say less then allowed  . Specific info about NYU will help...but general info about what they do to you if they find out is appreciated.

Hi there,
Most dorms have a "Nothing with fur or feathers" policy. Good pets are goldfish. It is not likely that you are going to have much time to spend with a pet and during third year, you are out overnight. Would it be kind to a cat or dog to keep them cooped up 24 hours and run the risk of them getting out and getting lost?

njbmd 🙂

Have you seen the first year housing at NYU SOM?

The rooms are TINY to say the least. I think most are 10 x 10 with the largest being something like 10 x 17. Plus there are communal bathrooms and kitchens so your pet won't get to roam anywhere except your bedroom (no fun for them).

That is, unless you'll be rooming in Rubin Hall, which is apartment-style and bigger. I had a cat for two years in an apartment-style dorm at NYU undergrad where housing policy is much more stringent so it can be done with a little stealth.

Good luck!

Just to clarify, I already have a four year old cat...so can't opt for a goldfish now...

To sooth the pet concerns, which I do respect and share, I am going to be in the Rubin suite, couples housing...so there is a little more room and my SO will be there for some loving time too...We've had the cat in our studio for the past four years so that is the only freedom to roam he knows (for all you concerned pet activists, he was adopted from an overcrowded shelter cage...the studio is a palace for him).

Thanks for the comments...especially the success in Rubin hall. If you could elaborate on whether or not people (repair men, inspection etc.) can come to your place unannounced?

Thanks.
