Hey Everyone,
regarding the PGY-1 year, my understanding is that the following two options exist:
1. match into a categorical program where you spend all four years with the anesthesia department that accepts you (first year is usually medicine).
2. apply for an internal medicine, surgery, or transitional year SEPARATELY and match into an advanced anesthesia spot for three years.
here are my questions:
1. is it harder to get the categorical spots? (this is what I would want cause I don't want to move again, etc.)
2. do I have to write a separate personal statement and interview separately for the medicine/surgery/transitional year programs?
thanks for all the help,
-M
