This is for 2 women not invited to complete training after medical leave in PGY3 medicine. Can they do 1 year of FM and finish?

What are options here?

Can they get funding to start at one of the brand-new programs or would they be ineligible due to using up three years of funding? so far they have been rejected from new programs for this reason. New programs want "fresh" funding?

FM and IM are two different specialties with different boards, so 2 years of IM and 1 of FM would not leave you eligible for either specialty boards.

New programs are very likely to insist that applicants have full funding. First of all, they need that funding to get started. Perhaps more importantly, their final funding level is determined by their total funding level at some point in the future, hence if they take someone with partial funding that lack of funding can get "locked into" their program permanently.

As mentioned, the FM and IM boards usually do not reciprocate, so to get FM boarded they would need to repeat training. Somettimes they will give credit for the PGY-1.
