Hey y'all,

I was wondering what the options are for PGY1 years before starting ophtho PGY2?

I know I can do med, surg, or a transitional year that is a mix of med and surg.

But does anyone have a comprehensive list of all the options?

Thanks!

You can do any prelim year or transitional year.

So prelim surgery, medicine, ob, peds, etc. However the chance of finding anything other than prelim surgery or medicine is rare and usually those other spots are reserved for people trying to get into that specific field.

So I'd say for all intents and purposes, prelim surgery or medicine or a transitional year are the only options.

If you want to be in the same location for PGY-1 and Ophthalmology, can you wait to add PGY-1 programs to ERAS until after you get Ophthalmology interviews? Can you postpone interviewing until after you've matched for Ophthalmology?
