I want to switch my residency program due to personal reason--I will finish 2 years credits but not staying because one attending does not like me. Do you know when usually a program will release vacancy positions? FindaResident have few postions and already filled..And my PD will only write O.K letters for me but other attending write me very good letters...I have heard successful stories of switching programs but I am very lost now

There is no real date in which "positions are released", although since both residents and programs have to give 90 days notice before firing/quitting, I would imagine that most programs that would have a PGY3 position available would know that by April 1 of this year (being 90 days before July 1st).

Not getting a good letter from your PD is a bit of a problem since he/she needs to write a letter and state that you are in good standing at your current program. Far be it from me to judge your situation, but is it really worth changing programs for ONE year because ONE attending doesn't like you? Seems like a lot of trouble especially since the grass isn't always greener on the other side...

Thank you Kimberli COx 🙂 actually the attending I mentioned happen to be in the power house. while PD actually is kind of on my side. I had a discussion with another attending who was in committee too and he said it's very hard to change the first attending's impression on me according to his "personality problem".....My PD promised the letter as good as he can, but who knows...Things get very complicated and it bothers me to make me not able to focus on working and studying ... My intern year was not like this and I was one of the best intern last year...

Good to know that April maybe the time around, I will keep an eye on it and please post on some information here if there is PGY3 openings in your pgorams ...
