I am a Ph.D from India (Biotechnology) and working as a postdoctoral fellow. I am thinking about a career change after a couple of years. Is it possible for me to get into dental school if I score well in the qualifying exam?
is there a particular reason for choosing dentistry?
main criteria for admissions = high gpa + high DAT scores + personal statement + recc letters + volunteering, etc.
I dont know whether the criteria for a traditional student is different - maybe some other sdn-ers might be able to help you with that.
will all your undergrad/grad courses and grades be transferred over?
Would you be considered an international student? If so, I don't know how much that would affect your chances. You might want to check out the international dental forum and see if you can find more info there.
But to answer your question, you'll need a high GPA and DAT scores to get an acceptance, plus you will need to have all your pre-reqs (gen bio, chem, orgo, etc) taken. I'm sure the fact that you have a Ph.D. will only benefit you.
Thanks for the replies. I am just in the process of thinking about a career change. I don't know what will be my GPA because in India the system is different.
