pharm advice

i have two weeks to go until my test and pharm is def my weakest subject - just have a hard time keeping the names and tox straight. besides doing a little bit every day, does anybody have any advice on what the most high-yield approach to pharm is? which classes of drugs are an absolute MUST and which are more obscure? any advice/tips appreciated.

make sure you know everything about autonomic drugs and the effects they would have together (you know, alpha blocker-this, beta agonist-that, etc). that's huge. next, know antibiotics. also, know other common drugs like HTN meds and statins. personally, i think those are the big ones--but then again, i ended up with at least 3 anti-arrythmic questions that i wasn't ready for, so you never know.

Know the anti-microbial drugs and know pharmacodynamics. I had quite a few pharmacodynamics questions that I thought were pretty tough.

Were there also enzyme kinetic questions as well as competitive inhibition questions? ALso, did you have alot of calculation questions too? These are my weak points in pharm. 🙁

How did you guys prepare for these types of questions?

I did have enzyme kinetic questions --- understand all the graphs in First Aid and be able to predict what happens to Km and Vmax with different types of inhibition. I didn't have any calculations, though.

I agree with the above posters about knowing competitive inhibition etc.. Also, autonomics, side effects/toxicities, and epinephrine reversal were very HY. For some reason I had a ton of illegal/addictive drug q's--intoxication and withdrawal--not sure why. Equations, structures, horrible drugs like anti-arrhythmics, and drug uses (which condition they treat), were practically non-existent on my test.
