Howdy! I'm new to the SDN...love it already! I was wondering who else applied to pharmacy schools in Texas. I applied to 3 (UT, Tech & UH) but I haven't heard anything back yet, other than that they have received my app. Has anyone received an interview yet?? I dont feel like I am a strong candidate, so I am very worried!

Hi. I applied to UT. No word from them about interview or whether they've received my application. Can I ask you when you sent in your application?

Oops sorry to mislead you. Actually, UT is the one school I havent heard from because I havent sent in my essay yet (finishing up as we speak!). Im able to check the status of my transfer application online, but I still have to submit the personal statement before I am considered complete for the pharm D app. I hate having two different apps! I sent everything else (transcripts, LORs, $ fee) the first week of January.

Do you already attend UT? or are you a transfer as well?

rxaggie do you attend Texas A&M and if so are you in the prepharm society?

yes to both! 👍

rxaggie, may I ask why you didn't apply to the new pharm school in Kingsville? I heard from students in my classes that tamu students have a better opportunity to get in b/c of the genetics w/ lab requirement that Kingsville has. To my knowledge, no other pharm school in TX requires genetics w/lab.......I don't think that ut even offers genetics w/lab, but tamu does. Just curious.

I did take genetics at A&M, but I havent taken biochem or anatomy which are requirements for Kingsville. Kingsville and TSU are the only schools in TX that require those courses, so I couldnt apply to either of those schools. I'm already taking 19 hours and graduating this semester, so there is no way I could have fit them into my schedule!

rxaggie, I was going to be VP of prepharm at A&M this year and I was the "dues man" there. But I decided to start Pharmacy School at UT. PM me if you have any questions and let me know if you get an interview.

I heard that there will be a new pharmacy school in TX, in the Dallas/Ft worth area. Does anyone have more information as to where and when this will take place?

Thanks.

FutureRxGal,

Is that University of North Texas? I thought it's in Dallas.

Also, at aacp.org, where do I go to find more information about this?

Thanks.

www.aacp.org, click on Pharmacy Schools, and then click on AACP Affiliate Institutional Members (U.S.).

The dean of Kingsville pharm school told me that Kingsville and Dallas were in competition for funding, and Kingsville won becasue their pharmacy school was already being built. He said that the Dallas school (either part of Tech or UNT, I cant remember) withdrew their pharmacy school plans so that Kingsville would receive enough funding to begin classes in 2005. This was what I was told about 3 months ago, so I am not sure if things have changed.

From what I understand, the Dallas-Fort Worth school was going to be a branch of the Texas Tech school. I also am not sure of the current status.

It's UNT (Univeristy of North Texas) and this is in the Dallas/FW Area. Texas Tech already has a new pharmacy school. 👍

Texas Tech tried to get a campus in Dallas for the 2005-2006 year. They used to have updates on their web site regarding this but I can't seem to find any new info now.

Yes, they do, but I believe their plans were to expand into DFW.

Hi! I applied to UH (in December) and have not heard back from them yet thoguh I did receive an e-mail from Paige which means I must be on their e-mail list now. (Despite the fact that I got no confirmation of them receiving my application?) I'll be calling them this upcoming week to see if they have received it.

I live in the Dallas area so it would be very cool if they opened up a school in Dallas!!! However, if they do, I fear it will be too late to apply. 🙄

Are you for sure??? I grew in Dallas and moved to FL when I was 13. I would love to go back to Dallas and go to school there. Are you sure this isn't a rumor? Haven't heard anything but then again, I am like thousands miles away
