So I'm trying to collect some data for tech pay. I've noticed that there are a lot of questions, generally, on how much a tech will make. I have created a simple survey that will take 30 seconds of your time at most. If you could answer, I would really appreciate it. I plan to use this information to create a general information statistic that will be freely available on the internet for everyone to see and use. Thanks!

I filled out the survey.

Minimum wage where I live is 7.95 and I am hired at 8.00/hr at CVS (not certified and no experience). The pharmacist tried to get me in at 9.00/hr but apparently it didn't happen. I was making over 9.00/hr at my old job in a restaurant and could basically make my own hours because the manager was great.

The pay seems like a joke. The ONLY reason I took it is because of the experience I would gain and the potential LOR from the pharmacist. I can't believe people pay to go to school just to become a pharmtech!!!

You might want to ask what min wage is in the survey and represent the pay as a percentage of min wage, because in some areas min wage is nearly double what it is in others which would make the results kind of meaningless.

Started out at $11/hr working at Walgreens as a Certified Pharm Tech (Texas) with no previous experience

Starting $13/hr working at Costco as a CPhT in CA, no experience

In 2010 I was hired by a chain called Shopko (300ish stores across a couple states). I was hired at the minimum which was 10.65/hr. I worked there for 2 years and over that time I was bumped to 11.15/hr. I was tired of being under payed for my ability so I decided to interview for another company. I was hired by them for 15/hr. They are called the Diabetic Specialty Center. They mainly ship out DME to people and they decided to throw on a pharmacy to their business. They are doing very well because they can service over 40 states. I worked there for 1.5 months until a pharmacist that I worked for at shopko hired me for an independant pharmacy that he was opening up. He pushed me to 18/hr.

From my experience and from what I have gathered talking to many techs is that starting and staying at a single chain will get you nowhere. They will pay you as little as they can as long as you are willing to put up with it. As with pharmacists and just about every job, the key is to know people and network.

Starting $14.05 at Rite Aid (in California) with no experience
