i'm taking the test this fri, and i was wondering if the ppl who took the test already can share with me what i should be studying mostly. I have no prior pharmacy experience, and I just started studying for this test last week.

I've been studying math and pharmacy law mostly, but are there any other things that i should concentrate on studying? How important is it to memorize the drugs (i haven't done so because ppl told me its a waste of time). Also, should i memorize all abbreviations? (etc - aa, ad lib, gtt, noct, ss, qod, etc...) Besides math and pharmacy law, are there any other things that take a big portion of this test?

I was thinking of purchasing the practice exam they have online at ptcb.org, has anyone bought this before, if yes, how helpful is it?

thanks

Yes you should know the abbreviations, especially those dealing with math, like bid, tid, etc.

Good luck! I'm taking mine in Nov. I have been concentrating on the math, law, and abbrev. Those were the three main areas that people told me ot focus on.

Dude, you don't need to do the practice exam in ptcb.org. the fee is expensive and if you have the money, I guess you can do it...anyways, I posted a blog a while ago about what is going to be on the test (my test was on in August 26th, 2008).

make sure you study everything...don't just assume that some random person's blog is going to have what you need to study. my test had lots of drug related problems...dont be surprised...

i took the the test back in june and i thought it was pretty easy and straightforward. i actually think i over-studied for it! what i did to study was check out a bunch of PTCE practice books from the library because they have really good practice exams. i also bought the mosby's book at borders with a coupon so it was pretty cheap and it comes with 5 full length practice tests! focus on the math (concentrations, dilutions) but it's nothing too complicated and the mosby book prepares you pretty well for it. just know how to read prescriptions using pharmacy abbreviation and figure out based on the prescription how long the pills will last, how many pills you should dispense, stuff like that. i wouldn't recommend memorizing all the generic/brand names because only a couple of them show up and it's just too much.

I took the test back in june. It was the easiest test I've ever taken in my life. I only studied 10 days prior to the exam. I ended up getting 800 on the exam. Know your calculations and most basic drugs, and you'll do fine. Good luck.

i am confident in pharmacy law and the math portion of the pharmacy test, but not so confident for the drugs.

What basic drugs should i be memorizing?

I took the test over 1 year ago and honestly thought it was very hospital oriented. Make sure you are able to set up proportions very well and know just what the more common drugs are for (diabetes, cholesterol, etc.) I just made everything I could a proportion. Also, know the typical conversions like mL to L, g to Mg & vise versa, etc. Even though I felt like I failed when I walked out of there and wasted everyones time, I passed.

Maybe you should show proof that you passed your exam and while your at it, show some proof on what is wrong with my blog. I passed the exam and I am only trying to help others. By the way, I didn't say in my blog how many drug names are going to be on the test, I talked about what kind of topics are going to be on the test.

lol...this is the internet. you can photoshop anything...you can say anything...nobody cares what you say or do unless you want to believe them. i am just warning the OP that just because its on the internet, doesn't mean it is legit. hence, study everything. you may be a good person trying to help everyone, but unless i know you in person, i wouldn't think twice that people on the internet is legit...this is a forum where students and professionals give input and ideas...it is your job to decide which are good and which are bad.

i am from denver, applying to CU and Regis. where are you applying?

My advisor told me to go apply for the Anschutz medical campus next year. They also told me that it is going to be much easier for me to get in because I am already in their 3 year pre pharm program (I don't have a clue if I am going to get a degree for this 3 year program and I have a feeling that I will only get the doctor of pharmacy degree). What are your thoughts about the regis pharmacy school? I saw on Pharmcas a couple weeks ago that the accreditation is still pending....
