I understand that the first line of therapy for Gon. is Ceftriaxone and that for chlamydia the first line is doxicilyne and that you can also give azitromycin.

But Azitromycin by itself can cure both disease, why not just give Azitromycin?

Goljan: think cheap for the boards

WHAT IS YOUR INPUT?

THANKS

The dose of azithromycin that is effective for gonorrhea (2 g) is pretty high. Chlamydia only requires 1 g. Because high doses of azithromycin are associated with GI side effects, it is usually preferred to use ceftriaxone for the gonorrhea.

Thanks for the input

so if you have this for Gonorrhea, would you choose B

A- ceftriaxone
B- Ceftriaxone + Azitromycin
C- Azitromycin
