Pharmacist and chemical engineer or electrical engineer

what can u do wit a pharmacy and chemistry engineer degree? i just graduated wit both degrees and dont know what to do with it. i want a career that uses both degrees at same time..maybe work for big pharmaceuticals like merck or amgen? what are your suggestions?

After reviewing your previous posts, your ultimate question is "how can those two degrees help you get the most out of your pharmacy salary?".

My answer to you is that they cant. What they can do for you however is give you an advantage in certain jobs like industrial. The truth is a lot of pharmacists get paid around the same starting salary (100-120k). I know that you are in this for job security and money but pharmacy offers so much more than this!

Something that most engineering programs do not have that is in the pharmacy cirriculeum is rotations. During rotations, you will be exposed to a wide variety of careery options as a pharmacist. During that time, you can answer your questions the best and maybe will enjoy one of them enough to settle into it. You can inform your preceptor or self think for yourself on how you can apply your previous education to each site.

I have a chemical engineering degree as well and I worked for Amgen too. I don't know if the degree will be of any use unless you go corporate. Then again, remember we are not pharmacologists so I dont' think you can do research with the degree.

are u able to work full time during the week as engineer at amgen and then work as a pharmacist part time on weekends?

i just want job variety and thats main reason why i did engineering and then pharmacy.
will pharmacists with engineering (bachelors) background get higher starting salary at a pharmacy chain?

i don't see why you couldn't do this, but last time I heard they laid off tons of engineers from the Thousand Oaks Plant. I'm glad I got out of there before this happened. I would be out of work and not in pharmacy school. They only pay about 55k for a process engineer but they may have you starting out working int he fermentation department cleaning tanks or taking measurements from the fermenters. I'm never going back to corporate again.

no i don't think your engineering degree will grant you a larger salary at a chain. YOu might be better off combining your degree by working for the Pharmaceutics department at Amgen. I could see you combining your talents there. There are a lot of absorption and diffusion processes involved in this field. You could be of some use with both your degrees.

The pharmaceutics place would be a great place to work at AMGEN especially as a pharmacokineticist. I know some friends who got job offers at AMGEN in biostatistics three years ago in 2005 and they got offered around 93K to start after finishing their PhD. So I am sure it is similar pay in the pharmaceutics department and probably close to 100K by now (since that number was from three years ago). So you would not lose much financially by working the industrial route I think.

I know that they do hire pharmacists for regulatory jobs, so those opportunities are available. if i were this guy though, i wouldn't waste my time working for them at 55K/year. it is a great company to work for with the benefits and all, but promotion is hard to come by there. plus they recently laid off lots of people, so job security there isn't the best

You are the quickest one are you? One day you have 2 degrees, another day you don't, maybe tomorrow you will be a Surgeon...

i'm actually premed but this is to help my friend that doesnt have computer access...she's chemistry engineer and looking into pharm. if she wants to work in a reputed pharmaceutical like amgen, would a BS in chemistry engineer pay more than one with pharmd working there? what's teh pay for both in industry and job titles?
also if she did get a pharmd, could u get a job that utilizes both degrees to full extent capacity?
