Has anyone you known saved up their money to buy an existing business or start one themselves?

Or is this something rare with the hindrance of massive student loans?

I shadowed for a pharmacist that hired onto an independent with the intents of taking it over when the owner retired. Thats the way to go, Its what I am looking into doing.

A couple of my friends and I are planning on opening a franchise within the next 1.5yr or so. We outlined a $$ amount to save and will determine along the way what kind of partnership to form.
