To what extent does professionalism play a role as a pharmacist? For example, there have been some instances where teachers were strippers on the side and because of this were fired even though they behaved professionally in the classroom. If a pharmacist were to be a stripper or something along those lines on the side, how do you think this would affect their job? Even if they were perfectly competent and professional pharmacists while on the job, would it result in termination if someone were to find out?

And no, I'm not thinking of taking up stripping on the side. There's been a rumor that someone in our class is one though, and that got me to thinking that if it's true, what would happen in the future.

its more common in undergrad than you think 😉 I kind of doubt someone would keep it up once they received their pharm d, but even a crappy stripper at a crappy club can make at least a couple hundred bucks a night.

It wouldn't bother me if my pharmacist were a stripper on the side.

I believe there is wording to being of 'moral character' in order to be licensed as a pharmacist here. And while I don't have a problem with strippers (or exotic dancers, since that's so much classier  ), the state board of pharmacy may have a problem with the chosen side job.

Besides, I don't have the legs for it anymore 😱

i think the whole point of going to college and becoming a professional is so you don't have to strip for money. however, that is a personal choice every person has to make. good luck to that person who wants to strip. just watch out that your boss doesn't come to the club you strip at.

Wrong. You become a professional so you have something to fall back on when you become too old.

He or she will probably stop hitting on you after that.

Oh hush. You know you do.

Yeah, if you have a varicose vein fetish. 😀

Let me know where these young prancers are performing. I would pay good money to see how much zip they have left after a 14 hour shift at CVS.

Anna, before you get on my case, it's for research I SWEAR :scared:

But seriously, a good friend of mine is a former dancer. She used to fly to Atlanta and work weekends doing 1,000 dollars a night. With money like that why bother with pharmacy? She wisely invested her money and today enjoys a thriving day spa pampering stressed out rich older ladies.

Why should that bother me? She's hanging out in a strip club, too. So what if she didn't notice me until after her hand got tangled my g-string? I think we can just laugh it off.

I have sat in on a Pharmacy Board meeting and saw them allow 2 pharmacists who were addicted to drugs, probably stolen pain killers, go back to work as pharmacists. Yes, they went to treatment program but if you have a problem with addiction a pharmacy is probably not the place for you to work.
They also allowed a guy that was a felon who spent time in jail who was convicted of cocaine possession with intent to sell get a pharmacy technician license. So if the board had a problem with a pharmacists being a legal stripper on their own time then the board is a bunch of political hypocrites.

I'd rather have a stripper working in a pharmacy I owned than a recovering drug addict.

Besides pharmacies and boobies go together. Just ask the old guy!

Don't try it in Texas. I saw a pharmacist from Weatherford popped by the board for moral turptitude when the IRS came after him for tax evasion.

Hey! I went to that meeting too! It was much less exciting that the previous meeting I went to. These people were not even 1/100th of a percent as shady as a wanna be pharmacist from (I think) New York. Oh, and the guy from Pennsylvania during that other meeting...priceless. I love when the board members have to rip someone a new one. 😀

Nothing wrong with stripping. I know strippers with more morals than a lot of 'normal' people.

I know a girl that was a stripper the whole time she was in chiropractic school and quit it as soon as she graduated. She ended up finishing school with no debt, and she even had some money saved to start her own practice. I see no problem with that--she used stripping to help better her life.

I avoid Texas like the plague. If people in Texas call themselves christian then I am the virgin mary. They are the most judgemental people in the nation, they need to look in the mirror first. I was always taught that with christianity you love evryone and let God do the judging. I guess Texas didn't get that memo.

I am sure in Texas at 10am the board would kick the stripper out of the profession based on morality, just in time for their nooner with the neighbor.

If you can practice in Texas you can make it anywhere. Reading their newsletter is always exciting. I saw the board pop two Walmart pharmacists for missing a drug interaction; Luvox & Thorazine. Those folks take their job
very seriously!

I was working a concession stand at RayJay stadium in Tampa to raise money for ASP. USF was playing a college from Texas that night and they had some fans fly in for the game. We were serving Hebrew National hot dogs. A guy from Texas refused it because he wouldn't eat a "Jew dog". He also said a few other anti-semitic remarks. He was a total jerk and I'm sure he considered himself a Christian.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one who had that impression. I'll be returning to my native Illinois residency after August when my Texas residency expires (a complicated mess with pharm school as I currently live in NY).

I dont understand how a christian could go around and insult jews without realizing the irony of the fact that jesus was a jew.

Yea but why would you be a stripper on the side, if you are a pharmacist. Say that a stripper makes 300 a night. It's not worth it to ruin your image, when as a pharmacist you can easily make that during one shift. People do stripping when they have no options, not b/c it is a fun thing to do. But being a stripper hypothetically speaking could get you fired depending where you work.
