i heard from a current floater that floaters only get 30 hours a week now. and a pic saying at some point all staff pharmacists will be 40 hours a week. is cvs placing limits on hours now?

So....are they closing stores earlier now? Do pics work all the extra hours? How would this work exactly?

In my district they are pushing for two partner stores to be essentially floater-less, so both PIC and Staff RPh will work at least 40 hours depending on store hours. Reasoning is to make things "fair" from what I've heard.

Would it not be less expensive to have a floater than to have to pay overtime for the PIC/Staff RPh?

They are in fact reducing the floaters hours in some regions. You guess the reason.

I think most CVS floaters here have a 30 hour/week base, but get full benefits. And can pick up extra shifts. And they are currently hiring. Of course, none of that can be true. I must be lying! 😛

I don't think they think you are a liar. I am merely suggesting that you could instead say for those who are interested in xyz territory we are hiring.

For many believing and saying "there are no jobs" means there are no jobs that fit my criteria. For those where location is not a strong determinant more specific information would be of great value.

We are all different in what we require. There should be no shame in that. The fact that they worked so hard and feel disillusioned by what it got them is where the shame lies. We should help the kids not hurt them further with taunting.

Never worry about hours at CVS. They will ALWAYS be there. The trick is to make it work for you because they say one thing and 3 months later it changes to exactly the opposite. Just look at the turn over rate from the top to bottom. What you have to do is make CVS your minimum full time job (24 hours here in CA) with a reasonable driving distance and then start pursuing other creative things in the process while having a minimal cash flow. Don't let student loans stress you too much initially, go about your life and sign up for the IBR plan. Later once you find you passion and the money follows you can pay it off in a lump sum negotiation (yes, this will happen in the near future look at the student debt). And if you fail for some reason you still win because its forgiven after 20 to 25 years.

Look at it this way if they pay gets crummy enough just go and hire other Pharmacists and open up shop... if pay is good fine work for someone else. The point is that you made it and for Pharmacists there will Always be work in some capacity. Keep that in mind, be confident and you will win.

Absolutely not. Floaters are "Staff Pharmacist Full Time" in the database, unless they're part time. Then they're called "Floater Pharmacist Part Time."

All Staff RPH's get 40 hours a week. Even if you're a floater, you WILL get 40 hours a week. People call out, they get sick, they have emergencies, they just dont feel like going to work, etc etc etc. You have no idea how many hours are available. Schedulers go crazy trying to find coverage at times.

Each full time pharmacist has a base number of hours. That you can get more shifts is true, but not everyone has 40 hours per week....

it has begun. cvs begins cutting staff pharmacist hours.

When I work at cvs 3 years ago they were always looking to cut staff rph hours. Our store did 600 a day and we never had overlap. 1 rph from 8-10

Where I'm located in California, CVS won't hire anybody for less than 40 hours per week. We have a floater that seems to go everywhere and he gets 40+ hours a week. For me, this sucks because I only want 24 hours/week and they won't entertain it. Most every pharmacist in my district, wants 32 hours/week and they won't do it. I think they want fixed schedules of 40 hours, so they don't have to pay someone to work out schedules weekly. They grind the pharmacists into the ground. They fail to understand that a 'fresh' pharmacist can accomplish more than an 'exhausted' pharmacist.
