Pharmacist in Charge (PIC)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How much more money do pharmacists get paid for being a PIC rather than a staff pharmacist?? CVS in particular?

Just became one today, i dont believe its very much- my supervisor said she gave me a really nice raise. Ill post when I find out, but Id imagine its only about $2/hr more or about 3%. Really not worth it if your looking for money.

My manager makes $3/hr more than staff pharmacists.(This is not at CVS but at a large retail pharmacy chain) I think there is some kind of yearly bonus involved, contingent on store performance.

Like StallionRx said, it does not seem worth it if you are doing it solely for the money. If you are trying to work your way up the corporate ladder than it is a necessary step.

Pharmacy manager at my chain makes $2 or $3 more per hour, but it's for a salaried 42 hour work week instead of the 40 hour week the staff pharmacists have. In reality my manager works 50+ hours weekly (again, salaried, so that's not any overtime).

All the pharmacists get a yearly bonus, with the staff pharmacists' being 25% of what the manager gets.

Definitely not worth the headaches if you ask me.

How does that work out? Is he coming in on his days off to work?

Combination of sometimes coming in early, staying late, and coming in on days off. Mostly to do things like reports, various inventory tasks, etc. I'm sure a lot of these things are delegated to other staff in a slower pharmacy, but we just don't have the time to do anything other than process prescriptions during normal hours.

50+ hours is probably a bit of an exaggeration as a weekly occurrence, but it definitely happens regularly.

42 hrs X $3.00/hr X 52 weeks = $6552.00+$2500.00 bonus = $9,000.00 per year. How much do think it should be?

where i am the pic gets 5k more per year and has a bonus potential of 7500 more per year that a staffer. now we never get that high of a bonus anyway so big deal

At cvs, I really don't see the pic Doing more work than staff, just has to answer to the higher ups if things go south.

$5.75 an hour more where I work plus double the bonus.

That sounds like a much more reasonable salary for a PIC.

Lucky that you do not have a state income tax eating away at your extra money either! Well, no state income tax for me either, viva la WA!

No state income tax but we have a huge propetry tax for the independant school districts down here. I paid $6553 in property tax on my house which is far greater than any state income tax I have ever paid.

This is what everyone who is not a PIC says. Try it and you will see how much extra time and effort it takes. It really isn't worth the little bit extra you get. I figure someone has to do it and it might as well be me.

Come live in New Jersey, we get state income taxes and high property taxes. They couldn't decide, so they just gave us the best of both worlds!

I would definetly work more/extra as a pic but at CVS there are no extra tasks involved and if you don't care and your store runs fine whether the pic is there or not then no extra effort is needed.
