Hello Everybody,

I was curious to find out the statistics that how many pharmacists now have a bachelor's degree (along with Pharm.D.). Also, what percentage of pharmacists have another health related degree (along with Pharm.D.). I am in an accelerated a-year nursing program. Just trying to see a picture of any benefits i would have with BSN degree to get into pharmacy school. I found only two pharmacist who are RNs. Pharmacists roles in the health care settings have been broadened in recent years. I have seen few schools putting emphasis on health assessment and therapeutic communication besides a regular pharmaceutical curriculum.

Merry Christmas and happy new years!!!!!!!

I am getting a BS to become a nutritionist before I apply to pharm school. My major is nutrition science with a minor in biology.

I have a bachelors degree in Bioenvironmental Science and will have a masters degree in Environmental and Occupational Health (MPH) in May. Hopefully I'll be starting pharmacy school in the fall.

If it's any help, i would be getting an associate degree in Nursing in May and hopefully be applying by June. I plan on working with it while in pharmacy school. You always have a chance no matter what.

I did not find any data regarding pharmacits with another degree besides their pharm. D. degree. The only data i found was that there were almost 80,000 applicants in the year 2005. Among them, only 46% already had a degree (from the website of south alabama university). I would appreciate if anybody would post the data and source.
Merry Christmas!!

So I've been going to school for way too long. AS Chem 2004 , AS Bio 2006 (had the requirements, figured I'd get the paper) BS, Chemistry, biochemistry option, Minor Bio 2007. Would have gotten my AS in Pharmacy Technology, but the BS classes overlapped the PHT classes.

I have a BSN + 4 yrs RN experience and I'm considering going into pharmacy. Ray1234, have you already applied to pharmacy school?

Yes, i have applied to couple of pharmacy school. I sent you pm as well.

I'm curious, why the switch from nursing to pharmacy?

I'm curious, do you plan on applying for pharm school right after nursing? Or are you planning on working as a nurse for a few years, then applying for pharmacy school?

I'm a first year student at Touro U and I have a friend who was a nurse for a few years and she's awesome! She has first hand experience of a clinical settings, patient interaction, medical team interaction, basically she has seen everything that we're eagerly anticipating

How can knowing more ever hurt you? 🙂

As for bachelors, I graduated from UC Irvine w/a BA in Sociology

Do you think it would be possible, I am going for my PharmD now, and in the future, when I have a midlife crisis, I think I would go for my DVM...probably an additional 4 years on top of what I already have, but I think it would be a breeze to go through those four years of schooling after I have been working with a PharmD for 10-15 years or so?
