Um...I just saw the Pharmacy Hours at my local Wal-Mart...
Monday - Friday 8 am - 8 pm Saturday and Sunday - 9 am - 6 pm
...Is this a JOKE? Pharmacists work more than 5 days a week??? ...Is this the norm for most pharmacists, to work everyday?

Usually there are 2 pharmacists per store. They split the hours, in this case, 39 hrs each. Aren't too many rphs that work 7 days per week.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I just had a pretty good laugh...wow...I have the biggest smile of relief on my face.... I just checked the pharmacy hours at my local United MarketStreet, and they are open 90 hours total. Wow...sorry for the noob question, that scared me. So how do Pharmacists do it then? Does a Pharmacist work maybe 4 days a week? Does one Pharmacist take a day-shift at 8am-3pm, and then leaves when the other Pharmacist comes in maybe at 3pm-close?? Anyone know?

I work 7 days a week, every other week. I certainly wouldn't call it the norm, but it's nothing that I would get nearly as excited as you seem to be over it.

Welcome to the medical field. Unfortunately, people get sick on weekends and holidays, too. :meanie:

It depends on the person/company you work for. It also depends on the volume you produce. Walgreens standard hours are 8-4 and 2-10. Five days per week x 8 hours per day = 40 hours per week. CVS has more flexibility in that in some districts the store has the ability to set the pharmacists schedule. Other chains may vary. Independents also offer flexibility as long as everyone, especially th owner, agrees. I can't speak for hospitals.

As to weekends, in retail MOST pharmacists work every other weekend. As the volume goes up the number of weekends go down, though the number of hours worked may increase. I don't know how hospitals handle weekends.

All depends on where you work..some pharmacists only work 8 hrs at a time and some will work 12-14hrs at a time.

one of my coworkers works 7 on, 7 off...

depending on staffing, she may work more, and also works a second job. i also work usually 6 days in a row, and depending on how short we are, more. i just finished a 12 day stretch. the longest i have ever done was 16, but it was split between 2 hospitals.

Wed will be 7 days straight for me. It has sucked. the decisions I make:scared:

wtf? those are the hours THE PHARMACY IS OPEN.

1) nobody says the pharmacist there is the sole individual responsible for all the hours when that store is open Mon-Sun.
2) Walmart has one pharmacy manager and 1 staff pharmacist. they split the hours. And yes, it is quite possible to work Mon-Sun b/c of the way the Wal-Mart schedule is set up. (those of you who work for Wal-Mart know what I mean).

You guys better watch out, Cofo is a fiesty lil fella and might tell you all to go Shove It...

Wonder what he thought about 24 hour pharmacies???

I just finished a 3 day weekend, so I will be working 7 days in a row. I'm off next Tuesday, then have another 3 day weekend. I'm working midshifts the next 2 days (11-7). I cover the lunch/dinner breaks of the other two pharmacists, so they can actually leave the store and go out to lunch. I take my break at 3:30 before the first shift pharmacist leaves for the day. The evening shift pharmacist will be alone from 7pm until 10pm, when the overnight pharmacist takes over. They work 7 days on, 7 days off. There are two night pharmacists per store. So, the average Walgreens in my area has 5 full time pharmacists per store to cover those 24-7 hours.

same here, it's how the night shift works. 84 hour week = no life.

How many scripts does your store do per week?

You're not getting enough X-box time.

I dont feel right...7 days in a row (12 hr shifts) and then 1 day off really messes you up! Its only temporary...I have a vacation coming up in a few weeks...thank god...XBOX time!!!!

I'm a floater, so I go to a couple of different stores in my district. Most of them do 400-500 per day with a few that go over 600. Once the snowbirds come back down the levels pick back up. The stores that do about 300 per day don't normally have a midshift.

those are monster stores😱My store does 400-500 with only one rph on wed-sun,it totally sucks but I stay cause I love my staff and i can make my schedule. Mon and Tues we have overlap for 8 hours. It makes time fly by!

I'm a floater and I just finished a 7 day shift, including the last 3 days of 10 hours, and including saturday sunday.

If you think youll get 8-5 m-f working in pharmacy, you should wake up out of that day dream😀

Today is my 7th day straight and I get a day off tomorrow.👍

After that, my schedule improves immensely. A pharmacist had a baby, so I'm getting her regular schedule for now. 8-4, 8-4, 2-10, weekend off, 8-4, 8-4, day off, 2-10, 8-4, weekend off, 2-10, 8-4, day off, then I have a six day stint.
