Pharmacology on Step2 CK?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can't recall a pharm question on my test. They'll ask you preferred drugs in certain situations, but no step 1-type mechanism questions.

If this is true (can anyone else attest to it?), then that get's a resounding THANK GOD! from me.

I am studying for it now, but so far I have seen:

1. On the practice questions from the NBME, they ask about weird drug side effect (lymph node hyperplasia). Sometimes they have drug side effects as a mechanism. Like a 23 year old female on OCP, BP 150/40. What is dx --> secondary HTN from OCP.

2. On UWorld, they have asked about drug side effects or drug choice for condition X.

I have NOT seen mechanism questions (like those images very similar from Katzung on UWorld for Step 1).

I would say drug side effects, indications, and other associations (serotonin syndrome, EPS with typical anti-psychotics, CO2 narcosis from drugs causing respiratory depression).

Good luck :luck:

It's possible you will see something about side effects, and very unlikely that you will see a question regarding mechanism. But like the other person said, all you really need to know is when to use a certain drug. There isn't much else as far as pharmacology on step 2.

Best sig ever

😀

Pore/pour also.
"I pored over the dusty tome" "She has large facial pores"
"I poured a glass of milk"

Affect/effect as well.
"That movie affected (altered) my perception of..." "She had a flat affect"
"That movie really had an effect (impact) on..." "It effected (produced, caused) a change in policy."
