Wow, it's been a while since I've posted anything here (other than the responses to posts I made this week.)

Anyways, I was wondering if it's possible to do research and be a hospital pharmacist (specifically an oncology pharmacist) at the same time?

What kind of research?

Do you want to grow cells in a lab or do benchwork? Then likely not, go and get a PhD.

Do you want to do more clinical research? Then yes.

I'm looking to be an oncology pharmacist who also does clinical research. Would I need an additional degree, other than an oncology fellowship?

No, you should be OK with Pharm.D., fellowship and experience.

However, I should caution you that there is not going to be enough time to really get into research (really put time and effort into it and get publications out of it) AND be a clinical pharmacist on the oncology floor (follow patients, do consults, etc.). It will always be a struggle to balance them, most likely you will have to choose one as your primary job and do the other as time permits. None of the serious clinical research/publishing faculty at my school had time to really be hands-on pharmacists in the hospital - and none of the clinical pharmacists in the hospital, while they did some other wonderful things, had time for hardcore, published in national journals, research work (unless it was collaborating on a project once in a while).
