Does anybody worry that a pharmacy career will be repititious and boring? This is the "noise" that I am hearing when I tell people I want to pursue a pharmacy career.

Yeah I hear that occasionally. My brother's favorite one: "so...basically you're going to move pills from the big bottle to the little bottle all day"?

Ignore them. Pharmacy today is so much more than the public's perception. I sincererly believe you can and will find stimulating challenges throughout your career - if you make it a priority!

I agree. But rather than ignoring them you should inform them that pharmacy is so much more than being "pill-pushers"...and maybe the public stereotype will start to change.

That just goes to show you how much they really know about the profession. How many retail pharmacists do you know that actually count pills? The techs do all that mostly, besides narcs. Now, had he said "so basically you're gonna scan rx's all day and look at a computer", he may have been more accurate. Even still, the profession is more than that and you don't have to go into retail if you don't like it or can't see yourself doing it. Currently, I want to go into retail but by the time I graduate that could all change.
