ok, don't laugh, but here's my question...

i just got some of those sigler pharmacy drug cards today to help me study the top 200 drugs. my prof. gave us the list of the top 200... but i'm getting confused. for example, he has aventyl listed as 186, but all i could find in the cards was nortriptyline, listed as pamelor. would i be able to study the pamelor drug card in place of aventyl?🙁

hmm... very interesting. I looked both up on clinical pharmacology - they seem to be the same, just manufactured by different companies. Neither of those are even on the top 200 list that I have.

keiki,
don't worry about the top 200 drugs. they will tell you exactly what drugs they want you to know. i know they make it sound like you have to buy those cards but i didn't last year and i got through IPEP fine. just study the hand outs. those are the ones that are going to be on the midterm and final. and if i remember correctly there were only a few, 3 or 4 question that asked for generic to brand or brad to generic. so don't sweat it. if you really have a question you need answered about the drug just look it up online at one of MCP's online refrences, i.e. micromedix or clinical refrence library.

thanks for the words of advice totalkos..our IPEP instructor handed out the top 200 list already, which is why i asked the previous qestion. it was confusing because some of the ones he put on the list had two different cards.

i just bought the cards so that i can really know all the drugs.. i do intend to practice back in california, and i know that you need to know more about the drugs than what some of the out of state schools teach... in other words, i'm trying to make up for my slacking off in undergrad (by not getting into cali schools) by studying my butt off.🙄

i don't blame you. i really think MCP under prepares stundents form out of state. apparently the mass boards are easier than most other states. i know that california and NY (my home state) are supposed to be a couple of the hardest.

Every state except California uses the same board exam - NABPLEX. So, NY can't be harder than Mass. California will be using the NABPLEX plus their additional exam. They will not grant reciprocity to any other state. Florida is the only other state that does not grant reciprocity.

new york state still has part three's on there boards. complete with compounding. i'm not sure why it's supposed to be harder but i know my professors keep saying it in class.

i had to buy those sigler drug cards too.....it's a good reference...but we have to buy the new updates every year though
