Hi everybody,

I am a freshman at UWT, and current taking prerequisite courses. I have known that most of pharmacy schools recommend candidate to have some pharmacy experience. I don't know how can I work with pharmacist to get that kind of experience. I am only a freshman and I do not have any degree yet.🙁

I am planing to spend 3 years at university to complete all the prerequisite classes, and then apply to pharmacy school. I know it is really competitve to get in, but I will try my best to do everythings as soon as possible to help me have a better chance to get in the school I want.

Please help!!😍

Go to different pharmacies around town and introduce yourself, explain you are a Pre-Pharmacy student and you're looking to get some pharmacy experience. I went to about 13 different pharmacies over a 3 day span around town and got a call from one a week later. Got an interview and offered a job at Walgreens near my house. I have zero pharmacy experience but he could tell I was not a ***** and the pharmacist decided I was a good candidate.

Just be honest with them and tell them why you are there and what you want out of the job and you have an excellent opportunity to get a tech job.

Thank you for your advice.
Do you have to be a pharmacy technician or assistant in order to work with pharmacist?

I just asked if they were looking to add any techs to their staff. I guess you can ask them whatever you feel you are able to accomplish. Walgreens provides training to certify you as a tech.

It's really good that you're thinking about getting experience so early on. I suggest you study for the PTCE (PTCB.org) and get certified as a tech this winter break or whenever you have time. It isn't hard at all. You can buy a mosby pharmacy technician review book and study off that. After you're certified, it'd be easier to find a job, depending on where you live. In LA, pharmacy technician positions are very saturated so you just have to go to EVERY single retail store and ask if they're looking to hire. Express your aspirations and that you're a motivated student who will pick things up fast. Your best shot is large retail companies: CVS, Walgreens, Walmart. A lot of hospital positions require prior years of experience. Go to a fairly busy store and offer yourself. They might just make you a clerk even though you have a tech license, but its worth it. You really want to get experience so you get a feel of what retail is like and how consultations are important; itd give you a lot to talk about for interviews and such. Feel free to message if you have any questions. If you really are looking into taking the PTCE, let me know and I'll tell you what to focus on. It's really easy and its only a 70% pass rate. Goodluck 🙂
