Why is that BS? People in the same region can be offered different rates. My friend and I got RA offers in the same district. I can't remember hourly rate, but his yearly salary would have been ~$113k and mine was ~$117k.

Is it true LTC salary, in general, only differs about 5 dollars from retail type settings? That doesn't seem so bad as I've seen plenty of 10 dollars less when people mention hospital staffing.

I graduated in 2009. Sorry to disappoint the uber pessimists but the starting wages for new grads (in hospitals) doesn't seem to have changed much. Everyone I knew was offered around $45/hr. If you are a new grad and really want to work in hospital take whatever offer you get. Work your butt off and use the experience after a year or two to bargain for something better if you really are that determined to make more money. However, more money doesn't always equate to happiness


also, on a side note, all of the clinical positions at my hospital are salaried, but if nightshift or weekends are short even the clincals might have to pick up a shift here and there.

$53.75/hr WAG Florida. Only 32 hrs/wk guaranteed but you do get full benefits.

The rate has been about the same for the past five years.

$53 might be pretty good for new grad base pay depending on where you are. But we do $5 / $5 for nights and weekends for hourly non-exempt (staff pharmacists). Another system I know do $7 and $7. Clinicals and management are salaried and exempt, but they have much more controls over their work hours and don't have to do nights/weekends.

Can you elaborate on those differences between salaried exempt vs non-exempt.

it says whether a position is exempt from the fair labor standards act. Non-exempt positions are usually paid by time clocked, overtime pay applies. Positions such as management, ones that exercise lots of professional judgements, etc are exempt, paid a salary, no overtime but have more control on work schedule/time.

In NYC and Northern NJ, most good independents pay $40/hr cash. But it really ranges. There are places that pay as low as $30/hr cash or $35/hr cash. But then there are places that pay $50/hr cash. And there are also places that pay $60/hr cash. It's all about getting your foot in the door.

If you get caught, yes. Now it is quite unlikely the government would actually be able to catch an individual doing this, however, if the pharmacy is investigated (because they are doing other shady things) that is when your name could appear on their radar.
