P1 here trying to intern at a chain other than CVS/Walgreens. I'm looking at job listings on the Kroger website and there's only a few positions listed for Pharmacy intern and those are far away. Do you think it's viable for me to call the stores' pharmacies in my area and ask them if they're looking for a pharmacy intern?

I think it doesn't hurt to try, worst case is you will get a no .. the pharmacy manager can try to contact the dm and ask if they can have an intern if you make a good impression.. however, be aware that krogers doesn't have nearly as many stores compared to the big three chains, high turn over, and doesn't hire as many pharmacists historically bc of lack of need... so you can be the greatest intern at krogers, but may also not get a pharmacist job bc of lack of opportunities (the ultimate goal). I'd go work for the big three bc you will have a better chance at landing a job when you graduate

Are you credentialed in your state to immunize? With flu season coming they may want an intern especially if a tech recently quit. I'd just speak with the PIC about it.

That's what I did. It seemed that Kroger never listed that they were hiring an intern but every time I called to talk to the manager they were hiring for an intern. Needless to say I now work there.

Thanks for the advice. In my area, there's probably about 5 Krogers within 30 minutes of me so there's plenty. There's also 3 or 4 CVSs within 30 min but I worked as a tech there for 3 years - I decided to look somewhere new because one, I was very stressed out, and two, I did not have a good relationship with our DM. I did some research and the consensus is that Kroger hires from within, so who knows. I'm just trying to get my feet wet at somewhere other than the big three for now.

Yes I am certified to immunize and have an intern license in three states. I'll go ahead and call stores individually soon. Thanks for the advice.

I think I'm gonna do the same. Several Krogers in my area say they're in need of techs, so it might be better that they get an intern instead who has more experience anyways.

I'm not sure where exactly you are, but I'm assuming somewhere MidWest? I can't say too much about Kroger job offers out there, but I'm at Fry's which is a division of Kroger. We've had a lot new grad hires, most of which are Fry's interns or former interns at Walgreens or CVS who decided they didn't want to work crazy, long hours.
